108 players of all ages competed at the Tri-Valley Open on June 21st at Hidden Hills Elementary in San Ramon, a co-presentation of Emerald Hills Chess and Tri-Valley Chess League and part of our monthly tournament series.

In the 20-player Open Championship, Calvin Hou (Quarry Lane) went a perfect 4-0 to win the $150 first prize.
There was a four-way tie for second at 3-1 between Aaron Ahsan, last month’s co-champion Raghav Ramesh, top seed Nicolas Widel, and Emerald Hills Chess coach Kadir Baki. They each won $35.
Pratham Jain* (* denotes one of 300 Emerald Hills Chess students) won $60 as the Top U1200 player.
In the 19-player Experts (U1200) youth/adult section, Aiden Huang went a perfect 4-0 to take first and the $100 cash prize.
Ryan Saha won the $50 second prize with an undefeated 3.5-0.5 score. Three Fallon players tied for third - Krish Desai*, Naman Jain* and Nolan Woo*. David Kim of Emerald HS was the Top U1000 player, while Adrel Coutinho* (Coyote Creek) placed second Under 1000.
In the 38-player Premier (U800) youth/adult section, there was a three-way tie for first with perfect 4-0 scores: Jason Phan*, Shreyas Deepak* (Hidden Hills), and Annika Majumder.
There was a massive eight-way tie for third with 3-1 scores: last month’s Premier co-winner Saketh Pagadala* (Fallon), Reyansh Mane, Surya Vanapalli, Byron Li, Yash Bhagat, Charith Pavuluri, Ronav Chhiber* (1st U600), and Aarush Noothi. Laasya Prasanna won the 2nd U600 trophy.
In the K-12 U400-rated youth Challenger, Ehaan Parekh* (John Green) went a perfect 4-0 to win first.
Three players tied for second with 3-1 scores: Advik Angayarkanni*, Aarin Saha*, and Vishnu Vandanapu. Sami Sayyar* took fifth, while Kanishk Mahesha* (Coyote Creek) and Shaurya Singhal* (Mohr) won first and second U200, respectively.
Finally, in the non-rated Novices round-robins, our trophy winners were:
Group 1: Srihaas Ghanta, Noah Toy, and Yusuf Bseikri*.
Group 2: Rivaan Ermal*, Tristan Wong* (Walnut Grove), and Yunus Bseikri*.
