Beat the Summer Heat with Intensive, Fun Camps and Classes
173 players competed at the Tri-Valley June Open at Hidden Hills Elementary in San Ramon, a co-presentation of Emerald Hills Chess, the Tri-Valley Chess League, and the Emerald Knights Chess Club, and part of our monthly tournament series.
In our highly-competitive 42-player Championship Swiss, National Master Aryan Achuthan lived up to his no. 1 seeding to go a perfect 4-0. The UC Berkeley student (and former Tri-Valley Open volunteer TD) shared first place and $450 with Steven Pachan* (Thurs Night Free Chess).

Teddy Usman* (Thurs Night Chess) took third with an undefeated 3.5-0.5 score, winning $100. Seven players tied for 4th at 3-1: Jaison Acharya, Emerald Hills Coach Kadir Baki*, Yuvan Nandhakumar, Mustafa Ozturk, Michael Liu, Reyansh Nuti, and Shaahin Rushan* (Thurs Night Chess), with Ozturk and Nuti splitting the $150 U1400 cash prizes.
(Championship Quads will return at our July tournament next month; Swiss and Quads will continue to alternate.)
Four players tied for first at 3.5-0.5 in the 36-player Experts (U1200) section, each taking home $50: Ryan Saha, Dev Rawal, Reyansh Mane* (Sunday tourney training) and Advaith Aravind.
There was a 3-way tie for fifth at 3-1, in tiebreak order: Vihas Penumadu, Adhvik Nuti* (Thurs tourney training), and Vedant Buradkar. Vaishnav Srihari, Darin Chu and Ezra Mart all grabbed top U1000 trophies, while Vincent Winderl* (Wed tourney training) placed 8th.
In the 49-player Premier (U800) section, Siddharth Kandasamy, Aarth Chirvi, and Ayaan Karia* (Mohr) tied for first with perfect 4-0 scores.
Ten(!) players tied for fourth at 3-1: Advik Angayarkanni* (Sunday), Rishaan Das* (Sunday), Joshika Buditi, Sumedh Kollipara* (Thurs Night), Charit Appana, Anay Murchite, Siddharth Kumar* (Sunday), Arjun Bhandari, Arastu Shrivastava, and Sourish Polisetti. Three U600 players grabbed outstanding player trophies - Yuktaa Sundarakamalan, Shiven Singh Katiyar* (summer camp), and Adhith Sakhtivel.
In the 26-player K12 Challenger (U400), Divit Sharma and Aditya Girish tied for first with perfect 4-0 scores. Five players tied for 3rd at 3-1: Karthikeya Muthamsetty, Arjun Winston* (Hidden Hills), Isaac Faris Omar* (summer camp), Anagha Venkata* (summer camp), and Bhuvan Konduru.
Aarik Doshi won 8th place, while Jenny Sun, Reyansh Saxena, and Nysa Banerjee* won the top U200 trophies.
In the 20-player non-rated Novices, Kabir Panchal went a perfect 5-0 to take first. Frank Yao was second at 4-1, while Eshaan Kodali took third with 3.5/5.
Aarush Manegari, Daksh Kuthiala, and Reyansh Anand* (Fairlands) rounded out the top 6, while Jayson Lee* (Cottonwood) won the top K-2 trophy.
