Fall After-School Clubs & Tourney Training Classes Schedule
157 players competed at the Tri-Valley Open on August 23rd at John Green Elementary, a co-presentation of Emerald Hills Chess and Tri-Valley Chess League and part of our monthly tournament series.

In the 29-player Open Championship, adult Teddy Usman went a perfect 4-0 to win the $150 first prize. Usman won his final round game with just 4 seconds on the clock over 4th place Raghav Ramesh, avenging three straight losses.
Top seed Andrew Zavgorodniy won the $80 second prize with an undefeated 3.5-0.5 record. Five players tied for third with strong 3-1 records, in tiebreak order: Gloria She, Raghav Ramesh, Yuvan Nandhakumar, Shaahin Rushan (wins $60 top U1200 prize) and Aaron Ahsan. (Tiebreakers explained)
In the 39-player Experts (U1200) section, another adult, unrated Sheng Liang, went a perfect 4-0 to take first place and the $100 first prize.
In these corrected results, second place went to Varchasv Garg* (Fallon MS) on tiebreak over Aryan Bhardwaj - both scoring undefeated 3.5-0.5 records.

Nine players tied for 4th place with strong 3-1 records: Neev Srinivasan, Nihal Gundu, Mahat Aravind* (Mission San Jose Elementary), Wilson Han, Michael Haddad* (Cottonwood Creek), Syd Sinha* (1st U1000), Ansh Doshi, Sairaghav Kumar, and Abhi Kumar.
In the 44-player Premier (U800) youth/adult section, Aditya Ashwin* (Cottonwood Creek) repeated his perfect 4-0 record from last month to win sole first.
Three players tied for second with undefeated 3.5-0.5 scores: Andrei Labutin, Advaith Subramonia, and Namish Shrivastava*.
There was a seven-way tie for fifth at 3-1, in tiebreak order: Charith Pavuluri, Allen Zhang (Cottonwood Creek), Sebastian Karagozlu* (Fallon MS), Mihir Kolpuru, Arjun Sharma (1st U600), Marvin Guo, and Briyan Chen. Advaith Aravind won 2nd U600.
In the 27-player K-12 U400-rated youth Challenger, two unrated players Vaishnav Srihari and Tong Hsieh-Lin tied for first with perfect 4-0 scores.
Arjun Banda* and Vihaan Sirupa* tied for 3rd with undefeated 3.5-0.5 scores.
Four players tied for fifth place with strong 3-1 scores: Sebastian Yang, Rishaan Das (1st U200), Arya Ashwin* (2nd U200, Cottonwood Creek), and Nora Liang.
