Clubs Debuting at Bella Vista and Cottonwood Creek
210 players competed at the 4th East Bay Open at Windemere Ranch Middle School in San Ramon on Saturday Oct. 11th.
In the 22-player 1500+ Championship, 3-time defending champion GM Enrico Sevillano tied for first with NM Emmanuel Perez, both with 3.5-0.5 scores, splitting $800.
There was a four-way tie for 3rd place at 3-1, with California HS’s Michael Liu winning the $300 1st U1600 prize, while Andre Zavgorodniy, Kevin Kane and Emerald HS’s Aavi Bharucha split the $200 third prize.
Harshit Ramesh (California HS), Arjunsai Prabhu* (Fairlands Elementary) and Steven Pachan split the $200 U1600 2nd prize.

In the 36-player Experts (U1500) section, Tristan Ma (John Green Elementary) scored a perfect 5-0 to take first and claim $150. Viann Rai (Bella Vista Elementary) and Jason Sun (John Green) tied for second at 4-1. They split the second place and U1200 prize money, taking home $75 each.
There was a five-way tie for 4th place with 3.5-1.5 scores, in tiebreak order: Arjun Shenoy* (Fallon), Arnav Solan (Emerald HS), Alexandru Chu, Wilson Han, and Allesandro Huerta (Sanger).
Rounding out the top ten were Dev Rawal (Dublin HS) and Ansh Ankit Doshi. Our top U1200 trophy winners were Adhyan Banuri* (Fallon), Advaith Nadiminti* (Fallon), and Johan Qin.
In the 62-player Premier (U1000) youth/adult section, Noah Toy* (Tri-Valley Homeschoolers) went a perfect 5-0 to place first and win $100. Rishi Bhartiya (California HS) was undefeated in second with 4.5-0.5.
There was a six-way tie for third at 4-1: Reyansh Mane* (John Green), Oliver Yu* (Wells MS), Vaishnav Srihari (Challenger), Adhrit Goswami* (Quarry Lane), Emanuel Cabrera (Sanger), and Wesley Berg.
Rounding out our top ten were Dhruv Jadhav and Vetrivel Jagath, both with 3.5-1.5 scores. Arush Ankit Doshi and Pranav Barani (Gale Ranch MS) took the top U700 trophies and split $50, while Aravin Sethuraman, Suhan Bansal (Fredriksen), and Arham Shah (Wells MS) also won trophies with outstanding 3.5-1.5 scores.
In the 51-player K12 Challenger (U500), Evan Li* (Kolb) went a perfect 5-0 to take first, followed closely by Eadburt Hsu (River Island Tech Academy) with 4.5-0.5 in second.
Five players tied for third with excellent 4-1 scores, in tiebreak order: Vihaan Sirupa* (Amador), Charan Yarlagadda (Yearn 2 Learn Academy), Dia Jadhav (Coyote Creek), Shivansh Puli and Joshika Buditi (both Yearn 2 Learn Academy).
Rounding out the top ten with 3.5-1.5 scores were Eayon Hsu (River Island Tech Academy) and Harshith Potnuru (Hart MS) and Ivan Santos (Hamilton). Our top U300 players were Adhish Prabu, Bhavik Kakkar (Wells MS) and Miguel Cuervo (Hamilton).
In our 38-player non-rated Novices, Akshara Manian (Gomes) and Setsen Enkhbayar (Pro Queens Gambit Club) tied for first with perfect 5-0 scores. Maneet Raj Sisodia and Vrishaak Rao* (Kolb) tied for third with great 4-1 records.
Four players tied for fifth place with 3.5-1.5 records: Anand Tuguldur (Pro Queens Gambit Club), Saketh Kollipara* (Fairlands), Nickolas Dugersuren (Pro Queens Gambit Club) and Aarohi Kakkar (Murray).
Other trophy winners in the Novices included: Harish Thandapani, Aditya Girish (Bella Vista), Amethyst Hsu (River Island), Srinidhi Vemuri (River Island), Brandon Lu (Quarry Lane), Tharun Vijayaashwin (Mohr), Rakeab Melese (Hamilton) and Joshua Xiyue Gong (Walnut Grove).
Finally, in the 32-team K-12 school and club competition, John Green Elementary of Dublin (Tristan Ma, Reyansh Mane, Jason Sun, Jenny Sun) edged California HS of San Ramon (below, Michael Liu, Rishi Bhartiya, Harshit Ramesh, Darin Chinok Chu) by the slimmest of margins.
(Team scores were based on top 4 scorers from ALL sections, with heavier weighting for players in higher-rated sections.)
