223 Players for Tri-Valley Aug 22nd Open
223 players competed at the Tri-Valley August Open at Pleasanton Middle School, a co-presentation of Emerald Hills Chess, the Tri-Valley Chess League, and the Emerald Knights Chess Club, and part of our monthly tournament series.
In our 49-player Championship (1200+) Swiss, two National Masters - local Hanchi Yao and Canadian Harry Zhao - tied for first with perfect 4-0 records, winning $200 each.
Reyansh Nuti was sole third and won $100. Top U1400 trophies and $100 went to Brayden Li and Emerald Hills Chess coach Mark Boland. Others tied at 3-1 included Alexandru Chu, Jaison Acharya, Ethan Wang, Aneesh Banerjee, Gloria Beichen She, Shaahin Rushan and Prachet Kowlani.

Marcell Heath* (Thurs Nite Free Chess) and Jiaran Liu tied for first with perfect 4-0 scores in the massive 66-player Experts (U1200) section, each taking home $75.

Kiruthika Jaiganesh, Neel Nayak and Vincent Winderl* (Tri-Valley Homeschoolers) tied for 3rd at 3.5/4. There was a traffic jam at 6th place, with 13 players earning trophies with 3-1 scores: Nihal Tej Gundu, Keshav Hari, Reyansh Mane* (Sunday), Risabh Kaushik, Anjali Guntuboyina, Oliver Yu* (Sunday), Aadvik Senthil, Yousuf Jamal (1st U1000, wins $25), Zhiyuan Tian* (Sunday, 2nd U1000, wins $25), Sia Kurkure, Ethan Sam, Adhvik Nuti, and Evan Li* (Sunday). Sarangan Vijayan won 3rd U1000.
In the 58-player Premier (U800), Jayden Wong, Vishnu Vandanapu, and Adhish Manoji Prabu tied for first with perfect 4-0 scores, followed by Vihaan Rameshrathinam in 4th.
Fourteen players tied for 5th at 3-1: Saman Gottipati, Saiaansh Reddy Mudireddy, Neel Mehta* (Wed tourney training), Raelyn Dcunha, Samrath Bhatia* (Wed), Sumedh Kollipara* (Thurs Nite), Atharv Sandeep (1st U600), Anika Kalidindi, Arjun Sah, Anthony Zavgorodniy, Elias Ghulam* (2nd U600, Thurs nite), Reyansh Saxena (3rd U600), Vihaan Sirupa* (Sunday), and Saiansh Rastogi.
In the 30-player K12 Challenger (U400), Srinand Soundararajan and Ayansh Singh (Wed) tied for first at 4-0.
Seven players tied for 3rd at 3-1: Ishan Dwivedi, Aadi Kartikeya Oggu, Chayce Saltiban, Aarvykk Reddy Cheruku, Lawrence Liao, Kedernath Kalidindi, and Paarsh Shah (1st U200). Waaris Singh Ubhi won 2nd U200.
In the 21-player Novices, undefeated Dominic Zubko placed first, a full point ahead of five players at 3.5-1.5: Ryan Jacob, Dhruva Santhosh, Atharva Anand, Maximiliano Anthony Sanchez, and Chaitanya Kamat.
Vedh Hiran, Mitul Ramakrishnan and Vivaan Yamsani won the top K-2 trophies.
