161 youth and adult players competed for fun, glory and 40+ trophies and $375 in cash prizes at our Tri-Valley Open on Nov. 16th, a co-presentation of Emerald Hills Chess and Tri-Valley Chess League and part of our monthly tournament series.

The 14-player Open section was won by FIDE Candidate Master Joel Ganta, who went a perfect 4-0 to win the $100 first prize.
Emerald Hills Chess Coach Wilfredo Sabobo and Austin Chen tied for second with 3-1 scores to take home $62.50 each.
Srinad Yenamandra won the $50 prize for Top U1200.

In the 32-player Experts (U1200) youth/adult section, Sunol Glen’s Arjun Patil followed up last month’s first place tie to win the Experts section outright with a perfect 4-0 score and take home $100!
Emerald High’s Shivish Aneja took second on tiebreak over Ishaan Philar (Quail Run Elementary), both with undefeated 3.5/4 scores.
There was a three-way tie for third at 3-1 between Benjamin Ghitterman, Vihaan Deshpande (Chadbourne), and Adrit Nudurupati (Donlon), who took home the Top U1000 trophy.
Nihal Tej Gundu (Epic Academy) won second place U1000 on tiebreak.
In the 45-player U800 Premier youth and adult section, Fallon’s Nolan Woo took first on a tiebreak over Ravin Anderson, Simha Santosh Tull, and Arnav Goyal (both Fallon), all with undefeated 3.5/4 scores.
There was a nine-way tie for fifth place at 3-1. In tiebreak order, they were: Ryan Chan Saha, Rishi Tumkur and Sriniketh Srikanti (both Fallon), Aarush Noothi (Fairlands), Neel Nayak, Advaith Subramonia (Mohr), Adhyan Banuri (Fallon), Xiomara Alcantara of Hamilton School in Novato, and Sebastian Karagozlu (Fallon).
Srikanti won the Top U600 trophy, while Mohr Elementary’s Raghav Singh won the second U600 over Anay Metha and Dev Girish Kumar (both Fallon).
In the 50-player K-12 U400-rated Challenger, the top 3 spots were taken by players from nearby Cottonwood Creek School, led by Yuv Shah and Aarav Ganesh in shared first at 4-0, followed by Yash Shah who took 3rd on a tiebreak. Reyansh Arise (Fallon) and Anish Sagar (John Green Elementary) followed at 4th and 5th, also undefeated at 3.5/4.
There was a nine-way tie for sixth place at 3-1. In tiebreak order, they were: brothers Rithvik and Rishvik Gudivaka (Top U200) of Fallon, Reyansh Mane (John Green), Vvihaan Chanana (Dougherty), Fairland Elementary’s Vivaan Salien, Alisal Elementary’s Namish Shrivastava (2nd U200/Unrated), Hamilton’s Hunter Indelicato, Jace Le (Fallon), and Andy Montufar Calderon also of Hamilton.
Finally, we had 19 competing in the non-rated Novices section for first-time youth players.
Trophy winners from the six-player round-robin groups (first, second, and anyone else scoring at least 3.5 out of 5) were:
Group 1: Mruden Patel, Rishik Madhamsetty and Shahzaad Syed
Group 2: Sanjeev Senthil, Dhaaarish Nalam and Soham Deshpande
Group 3: Sreyas Ganesh and Aadhvik Krishna

The Dec. 7th Tri-Valley Open will be held at John Green Elementary in Dublin. It will again be open to youth AND adults, and feature 35+ trophies and $375 in guaranteed cash prizes in the top sections.
