June 29th at Mathnasium
Sixty-nine players competed at Mathnasium Pleasanton on Saturday June 29th, with the morning Novice and Challenger sections for newer K-12 tournament players, and the afternoon rated Premier and Championship sections open to advanced players of all ages (including adults) and both featuring $100 cash first prizes for the first time thanks to our host, Mathnasium!
Players also had their games expertly analyzed by a National Master, Aryan Achuthan.
In the non-rated Novice for first-time players, Viraj Katkar went a perfect 5-0 to take first among six players, with Mayur Omkar taking second.
In the 20-player rated Challenger (U400) section (below), Fairland Elementary’s Joshua Kim went a perfect 4-0 to take first, followed closely by an undefeated Aaron Ahsan in second with 3.5 out of 4.
Three players tied for third with outstanding 3-1 scores: Arjun Sah, Subhayan Guha and Tejas Reddy (in tiebreak order - here’s an explainer). Other trophy winners at 2.5 points were Jayden Dalman, Arastu Shrivastava and Abhiram Veeravalli.
In the 20-player U800 Premier, Nathan Wen Wang of Hart Middle School went a perfect 4-0 to take the first-place trophy and the $100 cash prize. Aparna Raj of Fallon Middle School was close behind with an undefeated 3.5/4 score. Four players tied for third place at 3-1: (in tiebreak order) Adrit Nudurupati, Cambria Ghilarducci, Aarush Noothi, and Bennett Liang. Adhyan Banuri also scored an Outstanding Performer trophy.
In the 21-player Championship, Fallon’s Naman Jain played calm, confident chess to go a perfect 4-0 and take home first place and $100. He was followed closely by Fallon’s Vikram Snyder, also undefeated at 3.5-0.5.
Three players tied for third at 3-1: last month’s champion Kadir Baki, Arnav Solan and Aneesh Banerjee. Three players scored Outstanding Performer trophies at 2.5-1.5 - Arjun Shenoy, Gautham Ramalingam, and Evan Lim.

Tri-Valley Chess League is a Pleasanton student-led non-profit organization holding free classes and tournaments.
Emerald Hills Chess holds weekly before- and after-school chess clubs teaching more than 250 students in Dublin and Pleasanton.
Our last summer camp will be July 8-12. Open to Grades 1-10 of all levels, with small (4-6:1) sections divided by ability and taught by engaging, enthusiastic coaches, rated USCF tournaments with trophies and fun competitions such as blitz and bughouse.
