July 13th at Mathnasium

Seventy-two players competed at Mathnasium Pleasanton on Saturday July 13th, with the morning K-12 Novice, K-12 Challenger and Over-21 sections for newer tournament players, and the afternoon rated Premier and Championship sections open to advanced players of all ages (including adults) and both featuring $100 cash first prizes for the second time thanks to our host, Mathnasium!

In the non-rated K-12 Novice for first-time youth players, there was three-way tie for first at 4-1, with Kadyn Soto taking first on tiebreak (here’s an explainer) over Ryan John Joseph and Arumin Aravind.


In the rated 15-player K-12 U400-rated Challenger, Jeffrey Chen (below left) went a perfect 4-0 to take first. There was a three-way tie for second at 3-1, they were in tiebreak order: Abhiraam Veeravalli, Raghav Singh, and last month’s Novice winner, Viraj Katkar. Other trophy winners were 5th place Dhyan Pratheesh and Advik Nevse (top U200/Unr).


In the 20-player U800 Premier, two juniors and one adult each took home $40 in addition to trophies for tying for first at an undefeated 3.5/4: Aaron Ahsan, Tristan Pascual, and Remmel Mangao. 


There was a five-way tie for 4th place at 2.5-1.5, in tiebreak order: Will Pascual, Aparna Raj, Adrift Nudurupati, Rishi Tumkur, and Arin Gurha.


In the 24-player 800+ Championship section, unrated Shivam Kumar went a perfect 4-0 to take the first-place trophy and $100. Taking second with an undefeated 3.5/4 score was Mexican FIDE-rated player, Rogelio Zermeo (who also tied for first in the morning non-rated adult-only section).

Reyansh Nuti took third on tiebreak with an excellent 3-1 score ahead of last month’s champion, Naman Jain, and Emilio Berkley. Vikram Snyder won the U1000 trophy.
